WHAT IS TRE®?

TRE® stands for Tension/Stress Release Exercises, and is a revolutionary technique developed by David Berceli, to release deep chronic tension in the body that was created during  overwhelming or traumatic experiences. TRE® restores an inner sense of peace and calm to an individual.
Experiencing trauma is recognised as a natural part of being human and in order for humans to endure and recover there must be a natural recovery mechanism.

His observations in war torn Countries recognised that when a human organism is traumatised rapid changes occur unconsciously and instinctively in the neurology, physiology and anatomy of the body. These changes occur as a means of surviving the experience e.g. memory is stored differently, adrenaline increases and muscles contract.

The Sympathetic nervous system initiates the Fight, Flight, Fright response as a survival mechanism allowing us to quickly assess whether we can fight or run our way out of the situation. Where this is not possible traumatised individuals curl up into a foetal position and Freeze “playing dead” primarily due to the contraction of the Psoas muscles.

When the trauma has passed our body needs to restore the nervous system to its previously relaxed state. Shaking is the body’s natural response to Fear. We’ve all experienced shaking hands, bottom lip quivering and knees knocking. If we can allow ourselves our nervous system will shake muscles and release anxiety and tension.

Prolonged or repeated occasions of trauma can result in the individual living in a contracted form. Contraction of the Psoas occurs due to psychological and emotional trauma and leads to changes in the neck and shoulder muscles.

TRE® INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS

In this introduction to TRE® you will learn a series of simple exercises that turn on the body’s natural ability to restore itself to balance through the process of self -regulation and self empowerment.

TRE® is currently being used in more than 100 countries and some of the benefits that have been documented include: improved sleep, relief from body aches (including back pain, headaches and TMJ), increased energy, reduced Anxiety, pain and stress, enhanced ability to stay focused and connected a effectively release chronic tension.


The exercises work for all body types and can be easily adapted for any fitness level or challenges in mobility. TRE® is a self help tool that once learned can be easily repeated in the comfort of your own home. 
You will be guided on how to use TRE® to shift patterns of held stress and tension in the body via a re-setting of the nervous system.

REGULAR TRE® CLASSES

These are arranged locally to deepen your awareness and provide guidance where necessary. Classes are limited to 4-8 individuals and prior booking is required.
